During
dineLA Restaurant Week, restaurants all around Los Angeles offer three-course menus at reasonable fixed prices. My colleague
Sarah and I took advantage of the great deals to sneak off to a really outstanding lunch at
FIG restaurant, in the Fairmont Miramar hotel in Santa Monica. Some snapshots:
Warm bread with arugula butter
Blistered romaine hearts with white anchovies
Pasta-less lasagne (vegetables and thinly sliced potatoes)
Torta de lengua (tongue sandwich) with cilantro and radishes
Chocolate pot de creme
Fig bars with Greek yogurt ice cream

Love Restaurant Week. Well, technically in SF it's called "Dine About Town" and it lasts 2 weeks. Got in a great lunch yesterday at a French Japanese fusion place near the Bay Bridge called Chaya. Are you getting excited for New York?!?!
I am very excited! As you can see, I've been whipped into a blogging frenzy...I just can't stop. Too much nervous energy I guess. Now all I want to do is make cakes.
This looks wonderful! Everything! I wouldn't know where to start! The lengua sandwich looks very Vietnamese. Yum!
Actually, the lengua was more Mexican - I forgot to mention above that it had a tomatillo sauce. I don't really like tongue, but this was EXCELLENT, and the chef Ray Garcia is known for his treatments of offbeat cuts of meat, which is why I tried it.
